My primary intention in providing massage therapy is to benefit my clients. I practice only modalities and techniques in which I am trained. I acknowledge the limitations of massage therapy. When appropriate, I refer a client to other health care professionals, instead of providing massage. I hold in confidence all personal information that my clients share with me. There are but two exceptions: when a client permits me to share information, and when the law requires it. I respect clients’ privacy. I provide privacy for undressing and dressing. I drape clients in a way that meets their needs for modesty, safety, and comfort. I respect clients’ decisions regarding how much to undress, parts of the body to be worked on, type of touch, and pressure used. Permission to touch is always temporary--the client can revoke it at any time. I bring presence of mind to massage therapy. I clear my mind of distractions before and during massage. I do not practice massage therapy while under the influence of any mood-altering substance. While acting as a massage therapist I do not sexualize massage or tolerate client sexual behavior. |
